I used Ubuntu a while back and then there was this spiffy OSX-like global menu (it exported the menu bar of applications up to the top bar). It was a handy way of saving screen estate. Now with the Unity -> Gnome3 switch this is gone, but the interface layout is the same. I must say that it feels kind of weird to have a screen-wide bar that contains almost nothing. Is there work on bringing the global menu back? Otherwise I think it would be a good idea to redesign the UI a bit.

(I currently use dash to panel because of this)

Thanks to any Ubuntu dev reading this, it is a nice operating system.
