Video capture from screen in 18.04

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 MATE on this desktop, and would like to capture a video playing on the display, and save it as a .mpg file. I want to share but there is no external url I can link, and it isn't public like on Youtube.

What software utility could I use that would accomplish this?

Are you looking for a screen recorder you can go live with? SimpleScreenRecorder can record the screen to whatever file format you want, but not sure it can go live.

Thanks, I just started playing with SimpleScreenRecorder and I believe that will suit my purposes. I had made a couple .mpgs with Kazem but something's wrong with them, VLC crashes when I try to play them.

If you want to privately share occasionally, have a look at megasync.
Upload a video to your cloud storage then send the link with key to whoever you want.

Then they will be presented with a page where they can play in browser, import to their mega account or download the video.
