Ubuntu 18.04 not recognizing full RAM

I recently installed Ubuntu 18.04 on a laptop and have noticed that upon opening Settings and going to Details, it only shows as having 5.8 GiB instead of 8. lshw -class memory shows the full 8 GiB, but free, top and System Monitor all recognize the smaller amount.

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 not recognizing full RAM

Just a thought, could the onboard GPU take it?

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 not recognizing full RAM

Upon running lspci -v, the integrated graphics card is shown to only be using 256MB of RAM.

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 not recognizing full RAM

Sometimes there is a misinterpretation of the output. Any chance of posting the actual commands used AND the output? Perhaps someone else would read it differently.

Would you please show the actual commends and results of
    Code:
    free
    and
    Code:
    top
    and
    Code:
    lshw -class memory
It is always best to show all commands and their outputs when seeking support.

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 not recognizing full RAM

Is this a recent observation that was not the case some time ago?

How much memory is indicated by your BIOS?

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 not recognizing full RAM

The computer was purchased very recently and Ubuntu was installed on it immediately, and this has been the case for the entirety of the time since then.

Oh, and the BIOS reports 8GB of RAM.
