    xubuntu random reboots when unattended

    Hi

Installed xubuntu 18.04 LTS on my laptop 9 months ago. Over the past month there have been many times when I come back to the laptop to find it has rebooted/restarted, all applications closed whetherf there was activity (eg video processing) or not going on at the time.

I have never had the issue of the laptop rebooteing when I have been actively using it.

The laptop is permanently running on mains power and I have Power Management set to never suspend when on mains power.

I update regularly and am not running games etc - just browsing, email, LibreOffice and KdenLive (video editing) but nothing outside the capabilities of the laptop.

    Any ideas where to start?

    Thanks in advance

Re: xubuntu random reboots when unattended

Despite mains power maybe there is an issue related to your power management setting. Without having your system log it is very difficult to give a clue.

Copy-paste the part your /var/log/syslog (you can use http://pastebin.com ) during such an unattended reboot. It will be then easier for us to help you.

You have anti-virus Software ClamAV (which is outdated).
For testing, uninstall it and see whether it fixes your problem.

Re: xubuntu random reboots when unattended

I changed the power management settings to never blank the display - it is now permanently on - and the problem has stopped so I'm not sure anything to do with Clam. The note that it is out of date relates to the fact that it updates itself when it needs to, so just recognising the fact - I think!

Re: xubuntu random reboots when unattended

Several days with no unexpected restarts - but with the display permanently on!

Set the "Blank Display After ..." setting to 5 minutes and left it. Came back - all applications closed down and OS restarted. I have now turned off Power Management but the permanently on screen is a pain!
