First Cup of Ubuntu
I've been using Ubuntu for a few weeks.
Apologies if it is in the wrong subforum.
I find this package feature very confusing. So I have a few questions. All I know is how to install packages but I want to understand how it works.
1. What exactly are repositories? I've heard it is from where packages are installed. Are they in the archive.ubuntu.com (This sentence may be silly).
2. What are PPAs and how do I make one.

Repositories are a place that holds packages.
archive.ubuntu is one.
To create ppas you need to setup a launchpad account and follow the instructions on how to setup a ppa archive.

Ubuntu software sources (repositories) contains 10s of thousands of packages. All repositories use the .deb file format. You can view all of these packages by using Synaptic Package Manager.
