    Upgrade the Ubuntu Forums

We rather like the discourse system and it has Markdown support, etc.

Not sure what the intention for this post is.

Nobody here has any control over the software used for these forums. That is Canonical and nobody here works for them.
Discourse is just another centralized social network primed to misuse personal data, IMHO. Or can I download the server code, modify it, and use it for any purpose I like without data being sent back to some company?

Years ago, I almost didn't join these forums because a login was needed to post.

But having many different ways for Ubuntu users to get help, find others of a like-mind, is always good. Just because I'm not a fan, doesn't mean that thousands of others wouldn't prefer it.

…then feel free to use them. Discourse is Discourse. UF is UF. As the Discourse site itself states:
This site (Discourse) is not for technical support.
(Use IRC, Ubuntu Forums, or askubuntu.com for support questions.)
At last count, UF has accumulated over 2.2 million threads, the vast majority of them highly technical. Do not hold your breath waiting for some volunteer to convert this massive history into some other BB format.

Okay sorry. I like UF. Just wanted to know what do you think. Probably a migration is not possible without any data loss.
It's just Discourse looks more fancy and modern but we can't talk as freely as we want.

The only restrictions are the ones implemented be the admins, just like here.

2.2 million! Me wonders how many TB that takes.

    Text doesn't require much storage.
Just don't post images unless absolutely necessary.
This post is under 300 bytes, for example.
