install ubuntu on laptop without keyboard

    Hi everyone,
this should not be considered as virtuosity but my real problem:
On the laptop I want to install Ubuntu by memory stick and removing completely Win7, the keyboard does not work.
So, is it possible to use an external keyboard? For instance, if I will need to set the bios to reboot with the memory stick or when I will be asked to insert info like user password?
    Thanks for your help

Depends on the make/model of laptop. Could you please provide the hardware specs of your laptop?

    My laptop is ASUS
    Processor: intel (R) Core (TM)i5 2430M CPU@2.40GHz
    Installed memory 8Gb

what other info might be useful?
