Whats is better? Use all power of processors or 'save' hardware?

    Hello!

I have a i5 with 4 cores. I usually use in two ways:

    • The 4 cores ON
    • 2 cores On and 2 cores Off

The two options attend my necessity in normal days and have advantages and disadvantanges. If I shutdown 2 cores, i save them useful life. In other hand, I force the other two processors. What option is better to:

    • Save energy?
    • Prolong useful life?
    • Produce heat?

I thought using only two cores I was saving useful life, but I started two think that more 'concetraded' effort could produce more heat in the second option than in the first. What you think?

I've never seen any Intel CPU "wear out." If they get too hot, they slow down so the temperature isn't an issue.

Let the OS manage the cores. Somewhere around 3rd generation i3/i5/i7/Celeron/Pentiums, Intel got really good at CPU power management.
