    Re: Unable to boot

Just to step back a minute here. Was everything working normally before all this started? Did you update/upgrade something prior to the booting issues? Was there a power failure perhaps?

Before hopefully oldfred responds again please make full backups of your important files and folders if you have not already done so.

    Re: Unable to boot

Machine left on standby overnight as usual. Woke up to being unable to write to disk. I've been in this siltation before a year or so ago so booted to usb, unlocked my LVM and ran

    Code:
    sudo fsck.ext4 -v /dev/.....
Worked fine last time and this time it picked up a couple of errors and fixed them. This was all on the LVM, not boot or EFI. Rebooted and saw blue squares. Manually chroot / reinstall grub - no joy. Tried a few other things. none of which wrote to disk. Here I am

If possible drive issues have you checked in Disks, icon in upper right corner - Smart Status?
All I know is pass/fail, but it can run lots of tests on drive.

    Re: Unable to boot

Looks good to me. Is it worth running more tests?

Am thinking about imaging the LVM, flattening and starting from scratch unless you've got a better idea

    Re: Unable to boot

If fsck & reinstall of grub do not work I am not sure what else to suggest.
Perhaps those that know more about LVM & encryption should comment.

    Re: Unable to boot

Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions.

It seems obvious that something got corrupted somewhere along the way.

If you have good backups it is probably just easier to reinstall.

    Re: Unable to boot

Have you tried booting into grub by starting up the computer and pressing right shift multiple times then restore grub from there?
