My latest Kubuntu's Firefox is almost the same speed as Chrome. I never use Firefox because of its slow to update pages, but 66.0.3 (64-bit) is very fast. Anyone else notice this or not. Using Kubuntu 19.04 latest ISO. Also Kubuntu boot-up has improved with latest ISO. Under a minute where before it was way over a minute. Times are all relative [hardware, hd, ssd, ram, etc] Firefox is faster according to Speed-o-meter:

Firefox has been faster than Chrome (you really see that with a lot of tabs) since quantum (V57).
I have always tried it when using the latest ISO and it was always a disappointment, until 66.0.2. In fact masny times I just remove FF and installed chrome. I'm going to take a closer look in the coming installs and release of 19.04. I usually install U,K,L,Xubuntu to check out any new offerings. With my older pc, I wasn't able to use ubuntu and kubuntu wouldn't even work. Now they all run smoothly. Now Firefox has surprised me the most.
