Problems setting up Canon Scanner in 18.04

Hi al,

I'm having problems setting up my scanner.

I've got ubuntu 18.04 and a Canon Pixma TS8250, I have installed the drivers for printing & scanning available on the canon web site.

The print test page works so hopefully that's OK.

I tried setting up the scanner following the advice in the post by gmarcotte:

However when I try to run scangearmp2 i just get the message can not find available scanners!

I have the same problem with a Canon Pixma TS8250. The only solution I have found is to run scangearmp2 through the terminal. It will only scan one page at a time, though it will cope with documents (into PDF, no OCR that I could find) and photos (creates JPEGs). I haven't been able to find any apps through Ubuntu Software that work at all with this Canon Scanner. [Printing is no problem via USB or Wifi.] The situation is far from satisfactory, but it appears to be impossible to find a better solution.

You can run scangearmp2. This user cannot even do that.

Incidentally - what connection does printing have to do with scanning?
