HP Envy x360 Ryzen 5 Can't Boot after upgrading from 4.19.x kernel

Laptop: HP Envy x360 Convertible 15m-bg1xx (Ryzen 5 with built Vega GPU).

Was running 19.04 OK under the 4.19.x kernel, then one day after upgrade to 5.0 kernel, computer failed to boot. This happened both to installed system and freshly prepared LiveUSB.

Can boot after adding the "nomodest" kernel parameter, but system only allows 800x600 screen resolution, totally useless.

No problem was encountered on two other Ryzen machines.

I am having the same issue after recent upgrade from 18.10 to 19.04 on a HP Envy x360 m Convertible 15m-bq121dx (Ryzen 2500U).
