    boot ubuntu from SD card

Can I make a SD card boot for session Ubuntu? My mac air has a SD slot and I dont need it for anything else. It would be a less obtrusive method to have a permanent Ubuntu on the laptop. If so would I want a high speed card??? What model SD card would be best?
I tried Virtual Box and didnt like it.

Maybe. It depends on the hardware. Some computers cannot boot from the SD card, others can. Some SD-card readers don't like SD cards formatted in any other way than FAT/exFAT, others don't mind. Ubuntu needs a Linux filesystem.

I say give it a try and see. I'm installing now on a USB drive just to see if my MacBook Pro will boot it.
