Help Needed #Microphone# not Recognized on ***Skype***/ Ubuntu 18.04

​Hi there,

I'm looking for a kind soul who can help me fix a pesky recurring Skype problem.

I have the latest version of Skype, which is 8.34.0.78, from which a number of helpful tools and features were removed by the designers, I understand. Much to the chagrin of older Skype users who complain about the new boutique version of Skype...

And so, however much I have tried, I can't use my Skype on Ubuntu 18.04, as the microphone doesn't work or isn't recognized. I can see my interlocutors and hear them, but they don't hear me. The Skype microphone test says the microphone doesn't work.

I understand this is a frequent Skype problem but for some reason I can't find an answer on any of the fora, including this one.

My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad.

If you're kind enough to reply, then please spell things out clearly, step by step, if you would! Screenshots are not a must but appreciated.

I'm sure other users can benefit as well... Thanks!
