looking for M3U holy grail media player

I sync my music between my phone and various computers.
My phone music app manages playlists by editing M3U files, and I can keep them in a playlist folder or in the main music folder and stores info in the form:

John Mayer/Where the Light Is_ John Mayer Live in Los Angeles Disc 1/12 - Vultures [Trio Set].mp3
    Luther Wright & the Wrongs/Rebuild the Wall/1 - In the Flesh?.mp3
    Flaming Lips/Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots/07 - Are You A Hypnotist__.m4a
Jon & Vangelis/The Friends of Mr. Cairo/The Friends of Mr. Cairo-.mp3
    Rush/2112/02 A Passage To Bangkok.mp3
    Adam Hood/6th Street/04 - Play Something We Know.mp3
Def Leppard/High 'N' Dry/09 Mirror, Mirror (Look Into My Eyes.m4a
    Jane's Addiction/Ritual de lo Habitual/07 - Then She Did.m4a

I can't seem to find any desktop linux music players that will also use this playlist form for keeping and editing playlists. They'll play the list, but if you want to add a song its not reflected back into the file. <-- that's the main functionality I'm looking for, a sort of "live" edit, not an export feature.

I know this is possible (because computers), but I can't seem to find any way to make this happen (maybe bad google skills?)

Does anyone know a way to do this?

    Thanks,
    - Dave

    Hello Dave,

A software named easyTAG, available in Ubuntu Software.
Here is a tutorial on creating m3u playlists using easyTAG

Thanks for that. Looks interesting, but not really what I was hoping for.

I just want a linux desktop music player that can play m3u playlists and write changes back to those playlist files as I play and say "hey, I'd like to add this song to this playlist" and later see that song remain on the playlist when I play it on my phone.

I just don't understand how Android apps can do this but not linux apps. I can't be the first person to want this I'd imagine...

Thanks, yes I use Clementine, but I'm looking for one that just stores its playlists *as M3U* natively so I don't have to keep track of the last time I exported vs any changes made on the phone lists, and having to choose the location and file name etc.
