    zip files

to install a zip you have to open that file dir with cd command. But do you cd to the
dir of the extracted file(folder) or the unextracted zip dir??

    Re: zip files

Go to the extracted dir and execute the command because that's the working environment.

    Re: zip files

We need to have a lot more detail of what you're trying to do and what exactly is in that .zip file you say you want to install.

A .zip archive could contain anything from binary executables to source code, or even malicious code that might cause you problems, so tell us what is in it and we may be able to help you.
If you give us much more info about whatever it is that you are trying to install we may also be able to suggest an alternative package that is in the Ubuntu repositories and can therefore be installed in the more simple way that most of us use.
