    (newbie) speed comparison

I have read that Ubuntu is faster than Windows 10.

Can someone please help me understand something; surely the computer spec is a constant which affects the running speed of an application?
So isn't the performance of an app more down to how much RAM and CPU power there is on the computer?

For example, will WPS Office run faster on Win 10 vs Ubuntu?

    Many thanks, Ken.

It all depends on your definition of "faster" -- which can be a subjective experience.

What do you mean by "faster"?

    Agree with QIII.
For Ubuntu, it really depends on the desktop environment (DE) you are using. If the DE is powered by Compiz, or some other really high visually appealing windows manager, then it's not a good fit for older hardware. Gnome, Unity, KDE come under such DE's. But if you are using something lighter like lxqt, openbox, Mate, XFCE or something similar, then it will work on a machine with limited resources.
WPS office is not maintained by Ubuntu and Canonical so its try and see by you.

Mmm, useful, interesting. When you say "Windows Manager" is this a UI so a user doesn't need to use the terminal window to do stuff?

    Re: (newbie) speed comparison

A window manager (WM) is system software that controls the placement and appearance of windows within a windowing system in a graphical user interface (GUI). It can be part of a desktop environment (DE) or be used standalone.
This is slowly turning into a discussion rather than a support request.
EDIT: The terminal usage and learning how to use it is a must for a pleasing user experience.(IMHO)
