    Screen corruption - screenshots attached

    Hi,

PC misbehaving. I think it might be the graphics card gone bad, but I'm not a hardware expert.

Two screenshots attached. Started after login bur now happens at boot too. Post self test is ok. Have taken graphics card out and reseated it a few times.

It an old card. nVidia 8600 GT PCI-E 512mb DDR2

    Regards.

If it's not the cable which caused this to happen on my old 8400 GS you could be right.

I think it would be an upgrade. I switched to a GT EVGA 730 2 Gb card, but the open source diver does not work with my newer card, the fan screams until the proprietary driver is installed regardless of distro. The video is fine with the open source driver, but there is a fan speed problem. More video memory is a definite improvement.

It appears that the card you plan to get is passively cooled so you won't have the fan problem that Frogs Hair experienced.

    Thanks guys.
I realise it would be an upgrade. I was more bothered that it would fit and work. It's cheap too lol.
