Fingerprint reader not working

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 on my Dell Precision 7510.

Unfortunately the fingerprint reader is not working.

I think the device is this one:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0a5c:5834 Broadcom Corp.

Any chance of getting this working or should I just forget it ?

I had a good look around for you and saw that this issue has been continuously reported for at least 9 years now.

Unfortunately, the odds to get this specific fingerprint reader working on Linux right now are slim to none.
