You can download a ttf file, open it and clic where it says "install font", then you wait a sec and there you go.

There's an app in ubuntu called "fonts". You can check your installed fonts with it.
As you have downloaded the fonts, create the .fonts directory at your Home directory and extract the fonts archives there.
Search "fonts" in Software Center and choose from among them!
