Keyboard not working, usb installation problem

Hello to everyone, I am trying to install ubuntu on an external SSD hard drive from macOS Mojave.
I created a bootable USB disk on a usb stick using balenaEtcher (https://www.balena.io/etcher/).
Then I restarted my Mac and booted from usb, choosing "try ubuntu".
When ubuntu loads, I am in the main screen (Desktop), but neither the keyboard nor the touchpad are working. I know the system is not stuck because if I insert an usb stick it detects it.
Anyone of you can help me? I have already re-downloaded the iso and re-flashed the USB but the problem persists.
I am following this guide https://medium.com/@mmiglier/ubuntu-...e-469ad33645c9 but I cannot even start the procedure.

Mac often have unique issues.
This now older post says keyboard issues with Mac & Linux.Do not know what has been fixed since.
