Is it possible to run Ubuntu Laptop/Desktops under Active Directory like Windows

HI Guys,

sorry if i am asking something which is already a universal truth

i am trying to find out if its possible to

• Run Ubuntu laptop/desktop under active directory
• Apply policies as they apply it on windows machine if not then is there any alternative
• Can Ubuntu machine have same windows Authentication experience as on Windows
• What are best practices an organisation should follow to make development environment
  
• Comfortable for developer , means they can actually use the benefit of working in Domain and other features
  
• Secure
  
• Auditable
  
• etc.

i never tried it myself but openLDAP is the alternative.
