I've recently upgraded to Bionic Beaver and with some frequency, and no warning, it happens that Ubuntu no longer registers keyboard input, nor, for the most part, mouse clicks. The computer still reads the keyboard, in that I can e.g. still turn brightness or volume up and down, but Ubuntu does not. Ubuntu does register mouse clicks on the dock and the activity bar, but not elsewhere. Thus I can switch between programs, but not interact with them once they're open, and I can attempt to close a program, say Gedit, from the activity bar, but if I haven't saved something, then I won't be able to click anywhere on the "Do you want to save your file before quitting?" dialog or hit enter to save.
The only thing I know to do to restore interactivity is a restart, and there's no obvious pattern to when my device is going to stop interacting.
(1) What can I do about this?
(2) If Hardware is not the right place to ask about this problem, where is?
