    Security Onion

I was reading about network security NIDS and HIDS. I read that Security Onion was written in Ubuntu but when I visited its site it says that it is its own distro. Im confused.

So do I need a separate machine (or VM) from my ubuntu server to run this thing, or will it happily share my ubuntu server running apache? Thanks

You can add the security onion repository to a Ubuntu 16.04 installation. There is a link for server instructions.
