I am running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on a Dell Inspiron 17 5000-series laptop. I have been using an external monitor via the HDMI port in addition to the builtin display for a year or two with no problems. I occasionally, e.g., once a month, disconnect the laptop and use it while traveling without the external monitor. I plug the monitor back in when I return, and everything works. However, I just returned from a trip, and Ubuntu no longer recognizes the external monitor. How can I get it back working again? Here's the xrandr console output:

I think it may be a fundamental HDMI issue since I don't even see an "HDMI-1-1 disconnected" warning.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to say that the monitor was plugged into the HDMI port when I ran xrandr and I have confirmed that the monitor works fine with another PC.
