Mic through Zoom H1 is amazing, through computer sounds bad

I have a Sony ECMCS3 hooked up to a Zoom H1 that I use for youtube and it sounds AMAZING but when I plug it into my computer, a System76 Lemur, it sounds bad. I'm just plugging it into my notebook through the 3.5mm audio jack, is there a better way to connect it? I just find it odd how plugged into a Zoom H1 it can sound so good and through my notebook it can sound so bad.

I'm trying to stream on twitch and screen record my screen for my youtube channel. I have been just clapping a couple times and combining the H1 audio to the captured screen video for youbute but I need to record from my computer when I do live like on twitch.

I'm on a budget, so nothing more than $20 for hardware. I hope it is just a setting but is there a USB to audio jack that will help the quality? I'm thinking the audio on my notebook might just be bad.
