Lubuntu screen pixelating after fresh install

I have an Asus desktop (Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard) that was running fine with Ubuntu 18.04 but slow. I installed Lubuntu 18.04 hoping to get better performance but the screen was breaking apart after the install. What's happening is that the screen will pixelate while it's busy but will settle down to normal when it's idle. But as soon as I do something again, it will pixelate.

I have done the following to troubleshoot the problem:
    - selected "Install third party driver" during install
    - When I check "Software & Updates/Additional drivers", it says "no additional drivers available"

I don't know what else to dig into. Is there anything else I'm missing?

Re: Lubuntu screen pixelating after fresh install

Since no one else has jumped in......

You said that it was OK on Ubuntu 18.04 which uses the same kernel as Lubuntu. My first thought would be a bad download or a bad burn to DVD or transfer to USB device. So, I would try another download. If you are burning to a DVD, burn at a slow speed and don't do anything else on the machine while it is burning.

Do you know what video card is in the machine? Maybe posting specs of the machine would help.
