    Re: Vocabulary Game

The word "algorithm", well known to mathematicians and those who work in computing, derives from the Arabic phrase "al-Ḵwārizmī" ("(the man) from Ḵwārizm"), an appellation given to the 9th Century mathematician Abū Ja῾far Muhammad ibn Mūsa -- who introduced algebra ("ilm al-jabr wa'l-muḳābala", Arabic for the science of "restoring what is missing and equating like with like").
