    Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) released

    On behalf of the release team, Adam Conrad announces the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. He shares with us the key new features of this version, including the 4.15 based Linux kernel, the switch to GNOME Shell in the LTS series, a new minimal installation option, and a tool to enable Canonical LivePatch to allow reboot-free kernel patching. The various Ubuntu flavors are also part of this release, of which more info can be obtained from a provided link.

    Call for votes: Developer Membership Board restaffing

    In the update Jeremy Bicha announces five candidates to fill the vacancies of those whose terms on the Developer Membership Board are expiring. Ballots are now being mailed for the vote that closes on May 1, 2018. The DMB is responsible for reviewing and approving new Ubuntu developers and granting upload rights to the Ubuntu repositories.

The proposal to discontinue the Alpha and Beta 1 milestones has passed in favor of testing "weeks" (Tuesday through Thursday).

    LibreOffice 6.1 Lands Mid August 2018, First Bug Hunting Session Starts April 27

    Marius Nestor reports that development of the LibreOffice's next version has been announced to start next week. Leading off with a bug hunting session on April 27, with milestones for two betas and about three release candidates, the final is scheduled for mid-August 2018.     Purism's Librem 5 Linux Phone Will Support Ubuntu Touch, Thanks to UBports

    Marius Nestor advises that a partnership between Purism and the UBports Foundation will see the upcoming Librem 5 offer Ubuntu Touch as a third boot option, alongside the Debian-based PureOS with a variant of GNOME as the default, and PureOS with KDE Plasma Mobile. The mobile phone is expected to be on the market in early 2019.
