Newb needs PVR guidance Kodi v Mythbuntu

I would like to build a single machine that is like a PVR rather than having a front end and back end machine. Can I do this with Ubuntu and Kodi? Would it be also be possible just using Mythbuntu? I do not understand why the Mythbuntu section of the forum was closed. Is there migration to Kodi as a front end?
    Thanks,
    s

Do you mean you want to have something were it's an all is one type of thing.
Like have just one machine with mythtv installed and use it to record and also watch tv on just that machine?

Yes, I do mean just have one machine. I am having trouble seeing why separate machines for front and back end are helpful in my setting.

What about something like me-tv or kaffeiene (or I think smplayer)
    They have tv functions.
Which you can use to watch livetv or record tv.

FTR, you don't need to use a separate machine for frontends and backends with mythtv.
mythbuntu will install on a single machine.
It will even ask (or give you a choice) if that's what you want at installation.

I have used tvheadend for a few months and, touch wood, it has performed more than adequately. You only need one pc and you can export a channel list to use on other applications such as VLC.

Here is the link to explore:-
