[16.04LTS] second screen is black after login

    Hi all,

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on a Dell Latitude 5580, with a second HP E231 screen.
After login, the second screen is turned out a short time, then goes black quickly.
In "System Settings > Displays", the second screen is powered on.
I have the same issue when I set the laptop out of sleep.

As workaround I wrote this script to switch off/on the second screen:
    Code:
    #!/bin/bash

    xrandr --output HDMI-1-1 --off
    sleep 1
    xrandr --output HDMI-1-1 --auto --right-of eDP-1-1 --output eDP-1-1 --pos 0x250
The sleep looks mandatory : if I remove the "sleep 1", I'm not sure to get my second screen back.

With a native 16.04 LTS I don't have this issue. It appears after having installed hwe kernel: 4.13.0-38-generic.

    Thanks for your help,
    Alex.

Maybe if people get to see your graphics processor.

Re: [16.04LTS] second screen is black after login

That's a surprising output. The product line usually gives all details, not only the vendor name.

Does a live boot of 18.04 yield a better output?

It's my work machine. I'll give a try soon

Maybe the output is corrupted by the hwe kernel ?
