It's good to see another Mate user who uses it on their main computer. I started using Ubuntu around Dapper/7.04, and my fondest memories of using Linux were on Ubuntu last decade when GNOME was still GNOME back during v2 (before they made people have to make MATE), but I have a big collection of old Linux CDs/DVDs.
Currently, I'm running:
Linux Mint 18.3 Mate on my main/gaming computer monster
Linux Mint 18.3 Mate on several VMs on Virtualbox for programming/testing
Linux Mint 18.2? Mate on my (main) laptop
Debian Stretch Mate on my Acer netbook
My router desktop has several partitions:
1 Debian Stretch Mate system
1 Debian Stretch system w/no GUI
I recently installed on it Ubuntu 16.04 w/no GUI, and
Ubuntu 16.04 Mate
I recently used Ubuntu 9.04 live CD to do some maintenance on a hd
I also like Crunchbang, Cb++, and Finnix, but I haven't used these for a long time. The system I first learned Linux on was Red Hat back in college.
