It may not work without it in proper order.

That is the order I was told by tech support.

Due to greater cooling requirements for newer, more powerful CPUs and the fact that most users will cool on air, most manufacturers are building their motherboards so that 2,4 is a more common arrangement than 1,3 as it used to be.

    Please Help!
I hooked up the power supply and a monitor. I shorted out the power pins on the motherboard. Nothing. Even the fan in the power supply does not turn. All assistance will be greatly appreciated.

My most recent build just worked.

But previous build I had similar issue.
Microcenter was nearby so took system to them and it worked, for a nominal charge.
I was trying to reuse a supposedly standard power supply with enough watts. But it needed new power supply.
    But double check all connections.

What do you mean when you say you shorted out the power pins?

I just momentarily put a screwdriver in the pins that activate the power.

Contacted the motherboard tech. He determined that the board was defective. I had no luck with this build.

This build is giving me all kinds of headaches. I carefully removed the cooler from the processor. The processor came out of the socket and was stuck to the cooler. Thankfully none of the pins were damaged. I can't seem to catch a break with this build.
