Question Partition set to mount for user

Many releases ago I set up a number of hard drives (partitions) so they would appear as named disks in File Manager. They've been in a drawer for a long while. Needing them for a new task, I fitted them to a new machine and they re-appeared exactly as they were. Trouble is, I need to do it again and I have no record of how I did it before. I've tried fstab and it does not achieve the same objective. System won't boot unless the drive is there; drive assigned to root, etc, etc. The drive(partition) must have been modified so that it knows it belongs to 'me' because it appears as /media/'me'/LABEL, and the system is happy to boot with or without it.
'disks', 'gparted' and 'Properties' show nothing unusual to give any hints as to what I did.

    Any suggestions ?
