Logging in with a Centralized Password file and directory link

    Hi -
I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 (and one 17.10 machine) and I'm looking for a way to allow a user to login at any workstation. Ideally I'd like the user to login and then be linked to his or her home directory regardless of which machine it's on.

I've looked at ldap and samba solutions and, quite frankly, they seem to be overkill for what could be a simple task.

Has anyone found a simple way to do this? Or must I roll my own?

    Thanks for any ideas,
    Gene

The 16.10 install should go as soon as possible. Several important bugs have been found recently so I suggest a fresh install of 17.10.1.

After that best is to change all passwords which have been entered on the computer.
