    newest ubuntu printing nightmare

Newest ubuntu (2018) cancels print jobs sent to my Epson WF-2760.

    Example:
If I open a PDF in "PDF viewer", it will NOT print.
If I open the same PDF in "Libre Office Draw" it WILL print.

Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it?

    What is "Newest Ubuntu (2018)?

Do you mean 18.04, which is not yet released, and will not be until April this year?

wow... didn't think that would cause such a problem. I forget what the current release # is...17.?? something...
I am considering going back to the previous version (what ever it was) where a user could actually print things.

The version I have is 17.10. Maybe I should just wait for 18.XX.... ?

Maybe you should verify that it's reproducible, then file a bug. That's what pre-release is for - testing, discovering, and reporting these little bugs so the developers can fix them.

When you installed 18.04, you volunteered to do such testing and reporting. It's a very worthwhile contribution to Ubuntu.

It's 17.10... file a bug... very funny.... I understand that it means file a bug report with the folks who make Ubuntu, but I have no idea how to do that.

Did no one else have this problem with 17.10?

This place can be a little hard on new guys. That said, it is important to be a precise as possible when seeking assistance, as in this case we needed to know that you really were using release 17.10. Also, I assume that by "PDF Viewer" you really mean the "Document Viewer" which is the default application for viewing text and image files, like .pdf documents. The actual name of the application is apparently "Evince" although I didn't know that until just now.

Yes, I've also noticed that trying to print a .pdf file from Document Viewer doesn't always (i.e., almost never) works. I have both HP and Epson printers and it has problems with both.

Printing from every other application that will open a .pdf file works fine.

There are already a number of open bug reports about printing problems with document viewer (aka Evince). I'm not sure if filing another will help or hurt.
