    Testing nemo PPA on bionic:

    @mac4man

I went to this site: https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team/+...e/ubuntu/nemo3 and installed the ppa for nemo3 for unity-session/unity-ppa and got :

    Code:
E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/nemo3/ubuntu bionic Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
Could you guide me where I went wrong or is it because it is bionic? (I seen they only upgraded to artuful).

    regards..

Go to /etc/apt/sources.list.d, open the webupd8 list and change the deb to artful. There is no ppa for bionic (yet). Then update again.
    That is,
    first sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/nemo3,
then, go to /etc/apt/sources.list.d and open that webupd file. You'd see bionic there, inside the webupd8.list. Change it to artful. Save it. Then, do sudo apt update, and install nemo

Re: Testing nemo PPA on bionic:

    See you have a thread..
I'd suggest trying the nemo3 ppa with the artful packages, if they work you'd see basically what it brings to the table.

After installing nemo you need to disable nautilus handling the desktop
    Code:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false
Set as default file manager with this -
    Code:
    xdg-mime default nemo.desktop inode/directory application/x-gnome-saved-search
    Then reboot.
The ppa has set nemo-desktop to run on a 2 sec delay after logging in, may not be needed.

Re: Testing nemo PPA on bionic:

Otherwise I'll make nemo slightly modified available via a ppa.
    The changes are;
Removed #12_unity_launcher_support.patch which causes xdg folder quicklist items to show on & off like nautilus does when nemo handles the desktop
Replaced the .desktop with one that has xdg folder quicklists built-in.

I have a completely new problem. The team leader changed the 'Label' and now it will not update the ppa for unity7. I had notified team leader.

Do you have a way I can workaround this without having to build a new ISO just yet?

    Code:
E: Repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/unity7maintainers/unity7-desktop/ubuntu bionic InRelease' changed its 'Label' value from 'Unity 7 Testing' to 'Ubuntu-Unity-18.04-Testing'
N: This must be accepted explicitly before updates for this repository can be applied. See apt-secure(8) manpage for details.

Secondly .. your method worked with nemo ppa but I can't verifiy because I had installed nemo method from the main before I had changed to name to artful in (other) so I am working on fresh install. I have two other hard installs but I want to use this current machine from factor.

    regards..

Nautilus will not go away. I tried it on a completely different install with unity-session. All went well but there is no nemo to be found. Probably something I did not do.

Typed nemo in terminal and voila'.

Yes.. please do .. I think we are on to something here.

There are some bugs (screenshot macro will not work etc.) but no show stoppers.

    Thanks ..

    regards..

    Did this again:

After installing nemo you need to disable nautilus handling the desktop

    Code:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false
Set as default file manager with this -

    Code:
         xdg-mime default nemo.desktop inode/directory application/x-gnome-saved-search

    Then reboot.

And now the header menus on on the main header bar.

But nautilus will still not go.

So users may still be using gdm3 & more often than not gdm3 needs a reboot

    see here, read page 1st.
    https://launchpad.net/~mc3man/+archive/ubuntu/nemo-demo

What's broken in general (not nemo specific) is alt+print no longer works in a unity session. This goes back to 17.10, no solution I found other than to rebind
(-using alt+Insert here, but this needs to be fixed.
