Slow/"out of range" wifi when using Ubuntu 16.04, but faster in Windows 10

Hi guys. I'm dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. My Wi-Fi signal is excellent on Windows. On Ubuntu my signal has been crap since yesterday and the issue has persisted even after multiple fresh install attempts, which is odd because when I initally installed Ubuntu months ago, the signal was perfect. If it's relevant I hadn't, until yesterday, touched that install of Ubuntu for months.

At first my issue was that my router was showing up as "out of range". The solution in this video allowed me to connect to the router but the signal is still ridiculously low compared to windows.

I sought support on IRC and was advised to try booting Ubuntu 17.10 to see if the signal is normal. Since that didn't work I've decided to post on here.

A search on the forums yields similar issues:

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2364068 Tried the solution in this thread, replacing the adapter name with mine (8821ae) but it didn't work

I ran the wireless info script from here and attached the resulting wireless-info.tar.gz

    Here's a pastebin if it's more convenient: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25887754/

Thanks in advance for any assistance

What kind of wireless adapter do you have in your computer and what 802.11 specification does it have? Also, what 802.11 specifications is your router running?
