    Changing a user's name

    Hi,
I'd like to change the name of a user to something different (in Ubuntu 14.04). I'd like to do this because I have been using a friend's account and during this time I have added many applications and things that the original user might not want or use, so I think it will be easier if I rename the account I am using to one that has my name and create a new account with the name of the user that lent me his account, so I can copy all his files to this new account.
It seems easier to me to do this than having to move all my stuff to a new account. Also, I am not sure whether when a new software is installed this is automatically visible and available to all users by default.
    Cheers

Programs installed via the package manager are system-wide, not per-userid.

I would push you to create a new userid and migrate the files from the other account over, as needed.

It is possible to rename a userid, but it is highly manual and prone to errors that could make the account break.

Thanks. I created a new user and migrated files
