    Ubuntu 16.04 slow ethernet

    Hi all,

I just recently installed Ubuntu 16.04 to my desktop and so far it went smoothly (even the Nvidia graphics drivers!). But I just realized when I go on the internet, the speeds are insanely slow compared to what I had before. My old desktop had Kubuntu running on it and had no problems keeping up with the internet speeds.

I'm currently using an Asus Prime Z270-A mobo. The output from lshw is:

    Code:
    product: Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V [8086:15B8]
    vendor: Intel Corporation [8086]
    bus info: pci@0000:00:1f.6

    version: 00
    serial: 10:7b:44:4b:29:e0
    size: 1Gbit/s
    capacity: 1Gbit/s
    width: 32 bits
    clock: 33MHz
    capabilities:
        Power Management,
        Message Signalled Interrupts,
        bus mastering,
        PCI capabilities listing,
        ethernet,
        Physical interface,
        twisted pair,
        10Mbit/s,
        10Mbit/s (full duplex),

        100Mbit/s (full duplex),
        1Gbit/s (full duplex),
        Auto-negotiation
    configuration:
        autonegotiation: on
        broadcast: yes
        driver: e1000e
        driverversion: 3.2.6-k
        duplex: full
        firmware: 0.2-4
        ip: 192.168.0.24
        latency: 0
        link: yes
        multicast: yes
        port: twisted pair
        speed: 1Gbit/s
    resources:
        irq: 132
        memory: df200000-df21ffff
I'm not really sure how to begin troubleshooting this so any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Re: Ubuntu 16.04 slow ethernet

    Please run

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ethtool
    and show these outputs:
    Code:
    cat /etc/network/interfaces
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    route -n
    lsmod
    ifconfig -a
    dmesg | grep e10
    sudo ethtool <interfacename>
Of course, replace <interfacename> with the real name

    Re: Ubuntu 16.04 slow ethernet

    Lets try

    Code:
sudo ethtool -s enp0s31f6 speed 1000 autoneg off
    sudo ethtool enp0s31f6
Driver version 3.2.6-k may be too old. Try the newer one attached

Patched according to this (scroll down):

    https://superuser.com/questions/1104...el-ethernet-co

Alternatively, try the native one, version 3.3.5-10 from the Intel homepage

I just tried out a speed test with Chrome instead of Firefox and I'm getting much faster speeds...

    Re: Ubuntu 16.04 slow ethernet

Open a new tab in FF and type
    Code:
    about:config
Search string "ipv6", change the entry "network.dns.disableIPv6" -> change to "true" and restart FF
