    RAM for Dell Inspiron

Dell's website says my Inspiron can only support 6BM RAM.

    The CPU is the Intel® Core™ i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 4.

Intel has a website that says the CPU will support 16 MB DDR3 1066/1333.

    Questions:
    1. Can I ignore Dell and add RAM?
    2. Does anyone know if DELL "tunes down" their laptops?

I am running the 64 Bit Ubuntu 16.04.

Some where on your computer there is a system tag go to Dell website and enter it and you can download all manuals and specs on your computer.

    Re: RAM for Dell Inspiron

Sometimes, with a BIOS update, the PC can support more RAM than it originally could when built. This is very rare, but I have seen it before.

    Re: RAM for Dell Inspiron

You can always ignore Dell. The question is if it will work. You might have some success mixing double and single sided RAM but often the limits set by the manufacturer are pretty much the limits you'll have to work with. The CPU is limited by what the mainboard is capable of.
