TryRebootCode:echo "blacklist acer-wmi" | sudo tee /etc/blacklist-acer.conf
TryRebootCode:echo "blacklist acer-wmi" | sudo tee /etc/blacklist-acer.conf
That is better
Awesome... You did it !
I just have to say I had to reboot three times to make it works... but it works !

wireless icon doesn't appear in taskbar, but i can open network settings. i see networks but can't connect to them. clicking connect does nothing, clicking settings does nothing

Why using kernel 4.14? Try the original 4.10 instead with 16.04. Then, you need the other branch of that driver. Uninstall this one first
I have previously tried 4.10, 4.11 and 4.13 (probably a clumsy approach)
while waiting for a response i tried purging and reinstalling network-manager and network-manager-gnome. after a reboot my wifi works now
now another problem has popped up, but i'll work on it a bit longer alone before i ask for help. i think i jumped the gun posting here
I had the same issue but it solved now , follow this https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new/issues/270
it worked for me , I upgrade my linux kernel to Linux 4.14.10-041410-generic and I followed the process
Why use a 4.14 kernel when https://github.com/smlinux/rtl8723de/tree/4.10-down works with 4.4 and others
@jeremy31, Thanks , I didn't see that
