I use KDE Connect on Kubuntu 16.04. See http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/01/k...dicator-ubuntu for more.
I simply use a USB cable to do that; does your mobile not connect via USB? See https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2226702 which may help you, though I believe most phones have been mounted automatically either as a USB mass storage device, or using the MTP protocol, since about 16.04.

Direct connections weren't too reliable in earlier versions like 14.04 which I run. I paid three bucks for the Android app Wifi File Transfer Pro. You navigate to the computer with a browser on port 1234 and can upload and download files at wifi speeds.

you can use "airdroid" app on your phone. Install it from the google play store on your phone, after doing this connect your phone to laptop (on which you want to send or receive data) using hotspot and wifi. after connecting both devices on same network, open your "airdroid" app on your phone and select "AirDroid Web" option on it, and see "option 2" it gives you a link like as "http://192.168.42.1:8888", note this link and paste it into any browser (chrome, chromium, firefox, or any other) on your phone or on your laptop. Now you can send or receive data to your phone and your laptop machine(both) at 15 MB/sec.
Many ways to fast transfer data mobile to pc 1 Connect the charging cables and click the media Device. 2 Download app wifi file transfer use without cable. 3 computer advaces sharing file.

This is the method I've used to move photos from android phone to PC. I don't see a reason why going the other direction wouldn't work.
