    Exclamation 16.04 | Acer E5 575 | Qualcomm Atheros Device 0042 rev 31 | slow ethernet + no wifi

    I have had the issue when i freshly installed ubuntu 16.04 when i purchased the laptop recently. And i disabled the IPV6 feature to solve the issue. But suddenly today its not working properly and the ethernet works but it is too slow and the wifi listings are available but page fails to load.

    Disable IPV6
    Code:
    sudo tee /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6 <<< "1"
    also attaching the output of wireless script from sticky

    Update:
    Replaced the power adapter and now ethernet issue is solved. Lets see if the issue is really solved after use it with same adapter for a day or two
    And wifi is still not resolved.

    Try disabling power management with
    Code:
    sudo sed -i 's/3/2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/*
    Reboot

    I was just going through dmesg output and came across this message
    Code:
    cant disable ASPM, OS doesnt have ASPM controls
    Did it have anything to do with the above command?

    [main]
    NetworkingEnabled=true
    WirelessEnabled=false
    WWANEnabled=true
    Jeremy and I hope you will click the Network Manager icon and click on Enable Wi-Fi. Does it help? Does it stick?

    @chili555 yes i enabled it when i was making the above changes.
    And weirdest thing is i know the culprit, its the power adaptor, when ever i connect it the ethernet becomes very slow and when not connected it functions properly.

    i know the culprit, its the power adaptor, when ever i connect it the ethernet becomes very slow and when not connected it functions properly.
    Perhaps we can get some additional information from the log. With the adapter unplugged, open a terminal and run:
    Code:
    tail -f /var/log/syslog
    Plug in the adapter and post the lines that appear in the terminal window when you plug it in.

    Get out of 'tail' with Ctrl+c.

    Also, please review system settings under power and see what the settings are for battery power vs. plugged in. Anything unusual? Here are mine for comparison.

    Today after i saw your message i tried to log it and to my surprise there is no issue now. I dont know whats happening, will update this thread when the bug shows up again. Thank you for helping me fix this.

    But wifi is still not working. I can see all the wifi listings but pages dont load even though it says its connected.

    Update:
    The issue started again just now and here is the log. After the last event as per the log the ethernet became slow.

    Code:

    Those are both rather benign messages. Please see: https://askubuntu.com/questions/6214...-interupt-mean

    Are you confirming that those are the messages you see when you plug in the adapter? For comparison, on my machine, when I plug in the power adapter, syslog reports:
    Code:
    Jul 4 10:44:26 T440p kernel: [91087.336929] thinkpad_acpi: EC reports that Thermal Table has changed
