    permissions

running 16.04 live usb, sudo caja in terminal, try changing permissions on system folders to retrieve home folder from broken 16.04. nothing works to copy folder or files.
How can I copy my files to another usb stick?

    Re: permissions

You need to be more specific on the steps you have taken to mount/access the internal drive partition with your /home directory on it and what system folders are you trying to change? Mounting the partition on which your /home directory resides should not be a problem nor should copying files "from" it. You don't need root permissions to copy "from". More details are needed as "nothing works" doesn't tell us much.

Thanks - never-mind, just realized I didn't have permission in DESTINATION FOLDER , not issue with system folder.
