    16.04.2 avahi: vulnerabilities? remove?

    topic is hardening:
    avahi - any vulnerabilities? could I, should I remove it?

    cups-browsed is the thing that "discovers" other printers in your network and when installed it installs avahi-daemon which is the protocol it uses to discover those printers. Avahi-daemon has other uses like finding and broadcasting other services to your network like samba , ssh, etc ...

    Thanks. I have no network, sit behind router, Firefox is firejail'ed, printer is wired USB. Backups to alternating 2 removable spindles which are only connected during backup(Clonezilla).

    If you don't need/want automatic hostname.local machine names, then you don't need it. You can always setup DNS or a manual name resolution solution.
