Question How to download photos in mass from an iphone/ipad from iCloud...

I do not imagine I am the first to hit this road block...
This post assumes one has no Windows or Mac computer.

How do you move photos from your iphone/ipad to your Ubuntu computer?
    All ideas welcome!

    Background info:
You can use Firefox and go to iCloud.com:
...But can you select more than one photo at a time?
Yes - I could not using "old accustomed ways".

You can plug your iphone/ipad into the USB port of a Ubuntu laptop:
I found clicking on the iPad icon that the folder was empty - as in nothing at all on the iPad?

I could plug my iphone/ipad into my wifes Ubuntu laptop:
I found that out of the 14,500 photos I have only 250 or so were in the folders?

My wife can plug her iPhone into her Ubuntu laptop via USB:
My wife who does not store photos in the cloud can move all of hers to her laptop.

    Details:
    Ubuntu 16.10 and Firefox 53.
    IPad Pro.
    IPhone SEs.
    14,500 photos - 41GB.
At the time of this writing every everything was current and upto date.
I need 41gb of storage on either IDevice to not use the cloud and download all my photos - I don't have it.

I think it's the way to go in the future. I wouldn't put personal photos into the cloud anyway.

It does not solve your problem rignt now, I know...

    Interesting statement.
Where does one draw the line?
You could only use film and devolope them yourself.
You could have digital photos on your computer but that can be hacked.
You could take photos with your smart phone but the gov or whoever can likely see them before you do.
It is a strange era we live in.

On another note, I think I figured out a work around. Beg, borrow or buy an iPhone with enough capacity.
Turn off storing the photos on the cloud.
    Download photos via USB.
Delete photos (that are now backed up) off the iPhone.
    Move on with my life.

Maybe it would be enough to log into you wife's phone using your user name, save the photos and let her log in again.

If you want to buy then I suggest Android in stead of Iphone.

Not enough space on hers or mine - I appreciate your suggestion.
I could not help but notice you are in Iceland!
    Wow.
That must be such an interesting place to be.
I am near the 45th parallel - you are somewhere so so so different.

I live in a rain forest near the ocean.
    From here...
You live in a nearly unimaginable land.
    But an awesome land.

Thanks, but most of us also live near the ocean getting a fair amount of rain Only few live in the central highlands. I would like some more forest, though.

Back on track, please post again if there is more that can be done regarding the phone problem.
