Boot from USB --- MacBook Pro 5,4

    NOVICE LEVEL HELP NEEDED

    Hi New to Ubunutu Forum,

Can you help me boot Ubuntu from a USB on my MacBook Pro (hardware 5,4) from around 2010?

It was originally bought as a refurb in mid-2010. I am using a Seagate Slim Portable Drive 500GB for the USB drive.

    Hardware Specs:
    Macbook Pro 5,4
    OS X El Capitan 10.11.6
Seagate Slim Portable USB SSD USB hard drive

I attempted using these instructions - https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desk...stick-on-macos - and these things happen.

    1) I install Unetbootin
    2) Unetbootin requires I reformat the USB drive to FAT32,
    3) After reformatting the USB
    4) I install Ubuntu (ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso)
    5) Uubetbootin tells me the new bootable USB can only be used on PCs

How can I get my new USB drive to boot Ubuntu on my Mac?

Also, will I be able to use my computer to save files and install drivers? Will I have normal computer functionality? About 10 years ago, I played with different Linux varirants and booted from CD, but they only allowed me to explore the OS and use the internet.

Thanks for pointing me where I need to be.

After reading some of this forum, I realized I need to let you know that I am massively a novice to Linux. Grub? Inertial dampeners? Hyper Torvald Spheres?

My dumbitude abounds. Please send me where I need to go if I am to far under the level I need to be.
