    Question Corrected obsolescence question

I made a serious mistake when asking about the likely useful longevity of my MacBook Pro with Ubuntu installed. I actually have a MacBook Pro 1,2 with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor and 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running Mac OS X 10.6.8--- not a Core 2 Duo processor. This means it's 32-bit not 64-bit. Am I still likely to be able to get some sort of updatable browser which will enable me to upload web files readily to my hosting site, stream video etc, or is the 32-bit/64-bit gap problematic even with the Linux OS?

Thanks again for all the help you've given me.

    Re: Corrected obsolescence question

    The short answer is 'yes'.
All releases and flavors of Ubuntu still fully support 32-bit applications, including web browsers.

There are, however, a couple individual exceptions:
Ubuntu Desktop (Unity) does not offer a best experience in 32-bit, and Unity developers have previously discussed dropping 32-bit support. This should not be a problem for you, as your system specs seem inadequate for Unity anyway.
Google has already dropped all support for it's 32-bit chrome browser.

    Re: Corrected obsolescence question

Thanks all! I've installed Xubuntu LTS Xenial Xerus 32-bit--that would be unaffected by the termination of support for Unity?

    Re: Corrected obsolescence question

Correct. Xubuntu does not use the Unity desktop environment (the 'unity' package). Xubuntu uses the XFCE desktop environment (the 'xfce' package).
