    shell toggling

Fun facts: F11 creates a shell at the top of the screen, across it with Ubuntu Mate; hitting F11 again, makes the shell full screen; hitting F12 removes the shell and puts you back into the GUI mode.

On my laptop F11 turns the screen brightness down and F12 turns it up.

Could you please explain what you mean by "creates a shell"? Is that a console window?

On my laptop, it only toggles full-screen. No console.
